"I'll Install Your Electricity if you Give Me Five Laptops"!
So you're having trouble finding the cash to pay for that new plumber? What about all those new office supplies that you must have in order to increase efficiency? It's rough times out there, but there's a way to get what you need by bartering- exporting for something a supplier needs and getting paid in trade!
According to the International Reciprocal Trade Association about half a million small businesses exchange over $ 10 billion in sales each year using commercial barter changes. Bartering, the trade of goods and services without the exchange of money, is becoming the go-to survival method for businesses during rough economic times.
The concept of bartering has been around for years and years, but with today's technology it is incredibly easy to get in on the action. There is a tremendous growth in broker networks and barter organizations as the slow economy causes a rush in the barter economy!
"Even in modern times, bartering remains a practical choice for small businesses." It's a cash preservation tool, something that's especially useful in a tough economy. " Writes Justin Martin from Fortune Small Business Magazine. "It can also help move unsold inventory or put idled staff to work. Done right, bartering can even drive new cash business."
But, do not think that just because there is not any cash involved means you can not be taxed on it! Bartering income needs to be reported to the IRS, as the result of a barter transaction is considered a sale. To find out more about the required tax forms, check out "Proceeds from Broker and Barter Exchanges Transactions".
What have you bartered for laately? … Read More

‘Theft by pretext’ – whether you are an expert or not, you may be a victim to this trap if you are not informed. You may have seen a lot of such set ups online, but for your information, they are also some operating offline as well. I have seen one in a popular business magazine in Southern Africa. It’s as deceiving as all the others; well designed, well articulated, all contacts revealed, banking details and options of payment, etc. I took the initiative to discuss this scam in my article ‘Theft by false pretext on the rise in Business’.
I define what the word ‘Pretext’ means and relate it to the so called business opportunity. The meaning is just what you see around in the many unsubstantiated businesses initiatives. I delve into the reasons why I think the idea won’t work as advertised by the so called expert. I’m a businessman who has learned customer behavior the hard way. I have lost lots of money trying to convince people to buy into my unsubstantiated ideas, just like this particular idea. so, don’t be a victim of circumstances by acquiring material that wont give you any penny back. I know what it takes to achieve success in this suggested idea. Not even one of the requirements is suggested in the advertisement.
As I studied this idea, I picked a few points that I think define the idea as a scam. It’s all based on my experience as a victim to scam and that which I got to learn as I took interest in scam. You may visit my website at yeboyesafrica.com to learn more of the experiences I share. I went to the point of publishing an audio book on the subject.
Why should I bother in the first place? Crime and fraud is the same everywhere. Its consequences are as devastating as anywhere else. You’re welcome to voice your sentiments on the matter in my blog.… Read More
Innovation is a popular term these days when discussing business. A recent business magazine headline stated that today’s businesses must “innovate or perish”.
Innovation in business refers to the introduction of a new product or service – or “a new way of doing something”. Innovation for business also includes improving an existing product or service to be faster, cheaper, or easier to use. Valuable innovations can improve an existing product that makes it more desirable to customers (and potential customers).
Business innovation can be the addition of a new feature or the removal of a feature. For example, a software program may be improved to add a new “automatic report generating feature” that simplifies the process of creating and printing custom reports for each customer. This new feature can distinguish the software program from competitors’ programs that require manual report generation, which is slower and requires additional training. Most customers will prefer the product with the faster, automated report generating feature.
Business innovation also includes the removal of a feature from a product or service. For example, a company may improve its existing product by simplifying the way in which the user interacts with the product. An existing product may have too many buttons or controls that make it difficult to use or intimidating to potential customers. An improvement includes the removal of several buttons or controls to simplify the operation and make the product “user friendly”. There are many examples of innovations that have removed features (or consolidated features) to enhance the user experience with a product. Most customers will prefer the product that is simpler to use.
Another example of a business innovation applies features in one product to a different product. This is particularly useful when a company has a successful product as well as other products that are less successful. Determine the reasons for the success of the first product and do some creative thinking to find ways to apply similar features or benefits to the other products. You can determine the reasons for the product success by asking customers, reading reviews of the product, and talking with the sales representatives that sell the product. Finding the key features that make a product successful is valuable information for current products as well as future product development.
Look for possible business innovations in your own company by evaluating existing products and developing improvements that set your products apart in the marketplace. This can be as simple as adding a new feature or enhancing the user’s experience.… Read More
