Magazines and Their Importance
A “Magazine” is a periodical primarily aimed at the general public, and containing news, personal narratives, educational information and opinions. The content of magazines is often written or compiled by professional writers, Journalists and experts in their respective subjects. Magazines use vocabulary understandable to most people, and often have lots of eye-catching illustrations. India Today, Frontline, Swathi, Vipula, Sri Rama Krishna Prabha are some examples magazines.
The Gentleman’s Magazine, first published in 1731, in London, is considered to have been the first general-interest magazine. Edward Cave, who edited The Gentleman’s Magazine under the pen name “Sylvanus Urban”, was the first to use the term “magazine”, on the analogy of a military storehouse of varied materiel, originally derived from the Arabic “makhazin” which means “storehouses”.
The images, drawings, and photographs in magazines are visual records of events created at the time they happened. In opinions, commentary, or editorials, authors try to persuade their readers to agree with their viewpoint or to take some kind of action.
Magazines are also great sources for financial news and sports news. The magazines’ frequent publication allows them to provide the speedy and reliable information that is valuable in a marketplace. Magazines play an important role in preparation of many competitive exams and entrance tests. In general, while preparing for exams like Civil Services, Staff Selection Committee and Bank Exams, we need to refer as many books as possible. One major problem is to purchase those many books which cost at high rates is practically difficult. Suppose if we purchased also, another problem is to read and understand those many books in short or required period of time is also difficult.

Sri Ramakrishna Prabha is a popular Telugu Monthly Magazine published by Rama Krishna Math, Hyderabad with a circulation of around 1,00,000 copies. It’s one of the best inspirational magazines spreading vivekananda’s message to the masses aiming at their wholistic personality development.
Articles on Incidents in the lives of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda and learnings from them and writings on science behind religious traditions are the primary content of this Magazine. A section on spiritual questions and answers, illustrations on youth issues and challanges and solutions to overcome them makes the magazine interesting and extremely relevant for both the young and elders.
